- Fake ASRock G31M-VS2
- Unknown G31-775
- Micro Tek unknown SIS662
- Esonic / ITZR unknown
Known issues:
- Fake motherboard/chipset
This motherboard and/or its chipset is either a replica of or falsely advertised as a higher-end competing product. Fake products often have lower performance and quality and are in general harder to find proper drivers and BIOS files for.
Please check your motherboard in detail to determine if its a fake product or not. If it is, you should immediately refund the product if possible.
Notes:
Counterfeit motherboard
This motherboard is often sold as the ASRock G31M-VS2 or the Foxconn G31MXP (or possibly also other Intel G31-based motherboards) in Turkey.
Chipset
Despite often being sold as a motherboard with the Intel G31 chipset, it actually has the SiS 662 chipset. Some BIOS versions do also mention "Intel G31" in the BIOS sign-on text. However, this is false.
Actual manufacturer/model name
The actual manufacturer of this motherboard is suspected to be ITZR/ESonic, due to similarities in the BIOS and the layout of this motherboard with other ITZR motherboards. However the actual model name is currently unknown.
To determine if your motherboard is counterfeit or not
Check your motherboard's layout in detail, and compare the location of the components with both pictures of the actual motherboard online and this known counterfeit model here. You may also check the motherboard model reported by the BIOS by using CPU-Z or HWiNFO. If it is reported as "M625A SIS662", you have a counterfeit motherboard.
Problems with this motherboard vs. a genuine motherboard
- You can't update the BIOS of this motherboard with the BIOS from a genuine one, as the BIOSes are incompatible. If you attempt to do so, the process will either fail, or the motherboard will get bricked, rendering it unusable.
- The SiS 662 chipset generally has worse performance compared to the Intel G31. It also doesn't support some CPUs (with faster FSBs) the G31 may support. The onboard video on the SiS chipset is also worse than the onboard video on Intel G31.
- A bug with the BIOS of this motherboard was also reported by some users online. Due to this bug, after shutting down the system, it might restart instead.
- Other components used on this motherboard are likely also worse than the ones used on a genuine one.
