The Promise 20230 & 20630 chips are very similar.

20630 offers:

  • 2 IDE ports over the single port on the older chip
  • Chip can talk WDMA to storage, but transfers from the chip to the PC are still PIO
  • IRQrdy modes depend on the controller implimentation
  • improved performance when everything else is the same

Drivers & BIOS are compatable between the Promise 20230 & 20630, but the WDMA modes require the 20630 chips.

Promise 20230 & 20630 chips are supported by XTide Universal BIOS 386L module in a beta state as of XUB r629
