The CMD PCI-649 is a standalone PCI to IDE/ATA controller originally sold by CMD Technologies before being acquired by Silicon Image technologies. The chip designed for efficient data transfer between a host system and IDE/ATA devices. It offers two independent IDE/ATA channels, each supporting up to two ATA/ATAPI devices, allowing a total of four devices. The chip adheres to the ATA/ATAPI-5 specifications, supporting transfer rates up to 100 MB/sec.

The PCI-649 is ideal for systems requiring additional IDE channels or those lacking an integrated IDE host controller. It is compatible with any system featuring a PCI bus interface, and can be easily implemented with an appropriate card and driver. Drivers are available for DOS, Windows 95/98, Windows Millennium, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000. The chip is also compatible with default Microsoft IDE drivers.
